- Many journals include this type of information at the end of a published paper; some require certain information on the title page
- These sections are often required even for “your paper your way” initial submissions
Acknowledgments
Thank those who are not coauthors but contributed substantially to the work:
- Patients and staff who participated in a clinical trial
- Those who donated supplies or expertise
- Those who reviewed the final manuscript
Funding
- Funding sources must be disclosed
- Agencies that provided direct funding for the work must be named, and grant or other identification number should be listed
- Authors who are provided salary or other support for work related to the paper must provide their funding source(s)
- NIH and other government funded work must be deposited into PubMed Central; if the journal does not deposit papers automatically, authors must do so themselves; instructions can be found here
Disclosures
- All authors must disclose any financial relationships with companies or institutions involved in the work or that may represent a conflict of interest
Author Roles
- Many journals require authors to provide their contributions to a study and/or manuscript, using designated contribution descriptions or following a universal taxonomy, such as the Contributor Role Taxonomy (CRediT) checklist
